The team is building a digital nation where each community member comes together to play, earn, and live in Lunacia. The protocol put eyes on the PlayAndEarn gaming industry back in 2021. It’s built on Ronin, an Ethereum-based side chain developed by Vietnamese-based gaming studio, Sky Mavis. However, as per the roadmap on their whitepaper, land gameplay is scheduled to be released sometime this year.Īxie Infinity is a PlayAndEarn blockchain game where players breed, collect, and play with digital pets called Axies and earn from the interactions.
Currently, Sky Mavis is focused on the recently launched Axie Infinity: Origin and the last competitive season of Axie Infinity: Classic.
Land gameplay was initially scheduled to be released last year, but had to be postponed as the team decided to focus on building the foundation of the Ronin infrastructure. “As it specifically relates to Land, once any type of gameplay for Land is released that can support token rewards, these Land Staking rewards will transition to be rewarded through active gameplay.” “Given our longer-term aspirations above, we intend to add engagement and gameplay requirements to the claiming of rewards in our ecosystem over time,” Axie Infinity continued. Furthermore, the team quickly pointed out that land staking is a temporary feature and might be removed once a token economy can be established based on land gameplay. The smart contracts are also currently in development with the help of a devoted community member. The team revealed that they have started making the user interface and design for land staking. The announcement saw land prices on the Axie Infinity Marketplace jump in value.
Land staking aims to address the major criticism of holding the Non-Fungible Token (NFT), namely, that no concrete earning mechanism or holding benefit was available for land. The feature seems to be driven by community feedback given after a land gameplay teaser was released by the team in the middle of April.
